Misbun hopes Chong Wei will not let his emotions take control

KUALA LUMPUR: National singles coach Misbun Sidek was in India 28 years ago as a junior player.
And he is quite anxious to return to the country with his world number one men singles player Lee Chong Wei at the World Championships in Hyderabad from Aug 10-16.
“I have not been back to India after the trip in 1981. It has been a long time. Then, I was a junior player trying to impress the people around me,” he recalled.
Now, Misbun hopes his charge Chong Wei will make an impression too. But he hopes the latter can remain calm and steady and not let his emotion overcome him if he hopes to make good at the world meet.
“The focus will be on him at the world meet as he is the top seed and had just won back-to-back Open titles at the Indonesia and the Malaysian Grand Prix Gold tournaments,” said Misbun.
“He has set himself with good foundation before the world meet but it is important to keep his emotion in check. The world number one status could do more harm than good if Chong Wei is not careful.”
Misbun said he was happy to add depth to Chong Wei’s preparation in the final phase of the training for the world meet.
“Lin Dan (of China) will not be his only main opponent. Those, who can read his game, can also pose a threat. I have to help Chong Wei to add more variety and pace to his game,” Misbun added.
