Japan’s Kawamae Hits World’s Fastest Shuttle ! New World Record (414 km/h)
Posted by valsus on October 10, 2009
With an impressive speed of 414 km/h for the shuttle coming off his racket, Japan’s Naori Kawamae became the world’s fastest smasher after he did some speed tests on the new Yonex Arc Saber Z-flash racquet, a few days before the Yonex Japan Open.

A huge banner showing the speed of 414 km/h was displayed at the event, and some extra tests where made in the training hall while the competition was going on. Players like Markis Kido, Nova Widianto, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong tried their luck against the speed radar.
No new record has yet been publicized by Yonex, but Kawamae’s record might not last long….
The former record had been a clocking of a smash by China’s Fu Haifeng at the 2005
Sudirman Cup – one of the Japan09-day1-New World RecordBWF’s major events – during a match! The speed of that shuttle was 332 km/h and that had already made badminton the fastest racquet sport on the planet.
You can see a short movie and explanation of the new racket by Yonex HERE.
